Sr. Jean of the Holy Spirit

Diamond Jubilee, Dec. 22, 2012, 60 years as a vowed Religious

Our dear Sr. Jean of the Holy Spirit died last night, January 19, 2020 at around 10:30 p.m. May the Holy Spirit sent upon Jesus at his baptism in the form of a dove swoop up Sr. Jean and carry her on His wings to the heights of heaven!

Sr. Jean had been very weak since January 10th when she had an episode and was unable to gain strength after that. She was put on hospice after returning from a short stay in the hospital. We thank God that she was not in pain or distress while she was awaiting her Bridegroom.

She was able to communicate with us in and out, showing her tender gratitude at times and her guileless spunk at others. Thinking she could not hear well a sister spoke loudly in her ear to receive in return, “you don’t have to talk so LOUD!” Other times she furled her eye brows to show her disapproval, or to mouth quietly, “I don’t know what you’re saying,” which she said to us so often lately, when her hearing declined. Then we’d say, “There is our Sr. Jean!” And other times she’d give her loving smile and mouth the words, “Thank you,” as she would often say to any little bit of help given to her.

Funeral Arrangements

Visitation will be held in the Carmelite Monastery chapel starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 21st, with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. in the evening.
The funeral will be on Wednesday, January 22nd at 10:30 a.m. with burial following in the nuns’ cemetery. All are welcome.

Sr. Jean’s Vocation Story

Written in 1989, here is a true picture of who Sr. Jean of the Holy Spirit was, prior to her decline in health. Her poetic style is well displayed here, as well as her deep spirituality and how she viewed the world around her, in her own, unique, gifted way.
