Bulletin and Novena Time for “Two Teresas”
Carmelite Bulletin
If you have not received our latest bulletin in “snail mail” please take a look at it on the Happenings page.
St. Therese Novena and Feast Day
Today, September 23rd, begins the Novena to St. Therese of Lisieux. The nuns are praying for all our relatives, friends and benefactors and those who have requested our prayers during this time of Novena to St. Therese (get prayer here). If you haven’t already, please feel free to send your prayer petitions to prayer@littlerockcarmel.org.
Mass of Roses
October 1st we will celebrate her great feast day and we hope you all join us in prayer on that day, but we will anticipate her “shower of roses” at the Blessings of Roses Mass on Sunday, September 28th. This way, more people can receive a blessed rose from St. Therese!
Relics Visit
We are excited about the upcoming visit of St. Therese’s relics on November 8th, which is also the feast of St. Elizabeth of the Trinity (another great Carmelite saint). You can read more about that event here.
St. Teresa of Jesus
But, without St. Teresa of Jesus, there would be, perhaps, no St. Therese, since she and most of her sisters had entered the monastery under the reform of St. Teresa of Jesus (otherwise known as “Discalced Carmelite Nuns” versus the Carmelites of Strict Observance). Carmel’s great reformer, foundress, mystic and doctor of the Church, St. Teresa of Jesus (Avila) is also the patroness of our particular Carmel in Little Rock.
St. Teresa Novena and Feast Day
One week after St. Therese’s feast day we begin the Novena to St. Teresa of Jesus on October 7th, and will celebrate her solemnity on October 15th. You will find the novena prayer on the same page as the Novena to St. Therese.
New Monastery Sign and Statue
If you are local to our area and come to our monastery for Mass, you will now see in front of our monastery a large, bronze statue of “our holy Mother” St. Teresa of Jesus next to a new bronze sign with the name and address of our Carmel. More stone work is yet to be done around the base, including flower beds, but that comes later down the line. We wait patiently!
(Please note: Photos were taken before they were placed in front of monastery. We will post the finished set up later.)

You may have seen the statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel already in previous posts from her feast day, but if not, here is another new addition to the chapel entrance:
